The Chula Vista City Council on Tuesday listened to public testimony calling for "stronger language" on a resolution denouncing President Donald Trump's administration policy of separating families who cross into the United States seeking asylum. The council did not take a stand to support a draft resolution, holding off on deliberations and a vote until the next council meeting Tuesday, July 17. If approved as it is written, the resolution "calls on the United States government to immediately reunite families separated at the U.S. border with Mexico, especially in cases where the family is exercising its right to apply for asylum, or in cases when the only offense committed is crossing the border illegally."
