Vote count hints at O.C. Sheriff race heading toward run-off

Duke Nguyen, candidate for O.C. Sheriff., moved closer to a run-off against Undersheriff Don Barnes in vote tabulations released Thursday, June 14. Undersheriff Don Barnes was listed with 50 percent of the vote in the race for Sheriff Coroner after the latest ballot count was released Thursday night by the Orange County Registrar of Voters. Barnes' count remains well ahead of runner-up Duke Nguyen, who held 30.7 percent of the vote, but on Thursday was actually under the simple majority required to prevent a run-off in the general election on Nov. 6. Holding 237,127 votes out of 474,372 counted, Barnes was 59 short of a majority.
