Three cases of Legionnaires' disease have been confirmed at a Providence health care facility, the Rhode Island Department of Health said Thursday. According to spokesman Joseph Wendelken, three people living at the Summit Commons Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Monthly fee for Providence speed cameras increases by nearly $9K

PROVIDENCE, R.I. Providence will pay the private company that oversees its school-zone speed camera program an additional $8,900 per month as part of an amended agreement that was never approved by the City Council, according to documents released Thursday. The revised contract with Conduent State and Local Solutions Inc. calls for the city to pay the company $3,573 per month for each of the 15 active speed cameras beginning Oct. 1, up from $2,978 a month under the original deal.

Daniel Guerriero, 32, is accused of animal cruelty for the operation police say he was running out of his car wash in North Providence. "He was conspiring with another defendant in a case that we have out of Smithfield, Michael Williams, to perform surgical procedures, cropping the ears of multiple dogs at a car wash that he owns," said RISPCA Special Agent Earl Newman.

Change to Providence speed camera contract prompts outrage

PROVIDENCE, R.I. Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare disclosed for the first time Wednesday that the Elorza administration has agreed to increase the amount the city pays a company that oversees its controversial speed camera program, sending the chairman of the City Council Finance Committee into a fit of rage. Pare told the committee the city will now pay Conduent State and Local Solutions Inc. $7.90 per violation, a 40-cent increase from the contract the council approved in 2017.

State Police: Driver slams into trooper's cruiser

Rhode Island State Police are urging drivers to keep their eyes in front of them when they see emergency lights after a car smashed into the back of a state police cruiser late Tuesday night on Route 6. State police told Eyewitness News the driver, Chheng Long, 52, of Providence, said he was disoriented by the flashing lights of numerous police vehicles at the scene, and didn't stop in time for the cruiser that was parked in front of him. Prior to this crash, police said the driver of another car crashed into a barrier on Route 6 West, causing a light pole to fall into the highway, affecting traffic on both sides.
