Poway is located in southern California in San Diego County. It was incorporated in 1980. The city is named after the Poway Creek which runs through the city. Artifacts including arrow heads, spear points, mutates, grinding stones and pottery have been found along the riverbed of the Poway Creek. School board splits 3-2 over approving teacher raises

Poway Unified School District teachers will receive 2.5 percent raises, plus one-time bonuses amounting to another 3 percent, following a split vote from the Board of Education members on May 10. The board members voted 3-2 in favor of ratifying the Poway Federation of Teachers' tentative agreement for the 2017-18 school year. Board members Charles Sellers and Kimberley Beatty voted against the agreement, while Board President T.J. Zane, Board Vice President Darshana Patel and board member Michelle O'Connor-Ratcliff supported it.
