A man from Woonsocket was arrested after he stole from an elderly woman at Twin River Casino, State Police said Monday afternoon. Michael A. Dwinnell, 27, was charged with first-degree robbery, after he allegedly swiped $200 from a woman who had just taken out cash from an ATM.

A middle school in Woonsocket, R.I., was locked down as students were leaving Friday afternoon, after a janitor found bullets in a boys' bathroom, and a student falsely claimed an active shooter was inside, according to police. Fewer than 50 students and staff were left in Woonsocket Middle School when it went into lockdown shortly after 1:30 p.m., Detective Sergeant Matthew Ryan said.

A veteran Rhode Island firefighter who fell ill during a fire at a home in Burrillville has died after being rushed to a hospital. WJAR reports that the 74-year-old firefighter was part of a Pascoag Fire Department crew responding to a chimney blaze Wednesday morning when the incident happened.
