Surprise is a city located in central southwestern Arizona. It was founded in 1938 by Homer C. Ludden, a real estate developer and state legislator. He named the Arizona town after his hometown, Surprise, Nebraska. In the 1990s tens of thousands of retirees moved to Surprise to live in Sun City Grand, a resort-like retirement community with homes built by Del Webb. Today the population is comprised of a majority of people over the age of 45, perhaps due to the Sun City Grand population.

Teens organize PHX 'March for our Lives' rally

She's not even old enough to vote, but 16-year-old Samantha Lekberg isn't letting that stop her from standing up for what she believes in. Lekberg, a sophomore at Willow Canyon High School in Surprise, is spearheading the Phoenix March For Our Lives, a national event taking place March 24th in cities all across the U.S. The event was organized by the survivors of the Parkland, Florida shooting.
