Poway is located in southern California in San Diego County. It was incorporated in 1980. The city is named after the Poway Creek which runs through the city. Artifacts including arrow heads, spear points, mutates, grinding stones and pottery have been found along the riverbed of the Poway Creek. These artifacts indicate to archeologists that there was a Diegueno Native American tribe presence in the region. The padres from the nearby Mission San Diego de Alcala kept cattle in the valley where Poway is now located.

Two-car collision seriously injures one Thursday night

A two-vehicle collision Thursday evening left one driver with serious injuries, according to a report from the San Diego County Sheriff 's Department. At about 8:05 p.m. Thursday, a Ford F150 truck driving northbound on Midland Road, driven by a 17-year-old juvenile male, struck the left side of a Jeep Liberty, driven by an unlicensed 36-year-old female, which was making a turn from Cynthia Lane.

Poway poised to ease water conservation rules

As record-levels of rain and snow continue to fall on parts of the state, the City Council on March 7 will consider ending the mandatory three-day-a-week outdoor watering restriction. City Manager Tina White said her staff is preparing a resolution that will de-escalate the city's water conservation efforts from a Level 2 to a Level 1. That would bring Poway into line with other municipalities in the county, White said.

Poway High musical - The Drowsy Chaperone' opens Friday
