Board revises email-meeting settlement bid

The Fort Smith School Board amended Thursday a proposed settlement in an Arkansas Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by deleting sections that suggested the board violated the act. Also omitted in the proposed settlement is a paragraph in which Joey McCutchen, a Fort Smith attorney representing plaintiff June Bradshaw, would seek a Sebastian County circuit judge's order for attorney fees.

Men cited in mosque vandalism

Three men were accused Thursday of vandalizing a mosque last fall by spray painting anti-Islamic and vulgar messages on the building and signs. A news release from Sebastian County Prosecuting Attorney Daniel Shue said Abraham Kendall Davis, Craig Alexander Wigginton and Ezra Nathaniel Pedraza, all of Fort Smith, were charged in Circuit Court with first-degree criminal mischief, a felony.

Port proposal OK'd by 2 quorum courts

Quorum courts in Crawford and Sebastian counties have voted to express support for a proposal to solicit interest in the development of an intermodal port in Crawford County. Each quorum court voted to contribute $40,000 toward a $200,000 fee to hire John Vickerman's Vickerman and Associates to draw up a "request for expression of interest" and circulate it throughout the port development industry to attract companies to invest in developing a rail, truck and water port on the Arkansas River east of Van Buren.
