The AP ran a story from the Times Record last week about differing policies in Arkansas and Oklahoma over kratom , a plant-based drug with sedative sometimes used as a substitute for opioids. In 2015, the Arkansas State Board of Health banned kratom's sale in Arkansas by adding its active compounds to the state's list of Schedule 1 controlled substances.

Police: Pilfered pin sold for $68

Police say a handyman at the Fort Smith Museum of History stole Judge Isaac C. Parker's gold-and-diamond lizard-shaped pin from a display case and sold it at a rare-coin dealer shop four blocks away for $68.50. Mark Craig Stevens, 58, of Fort Smith has been charged with theft of the pin and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge Wednesday in Sebastian County Circuit Court.

A Van Buren woman and a Fort Smith man were sentenced to federal prison today on separate drug trafficking charges, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas. Deobrah Nabors, 55, was given 5 years and 11 months in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release on one count of distribution of methamphetamine.

Daniel Arthur Stewart, 48, of Fort Smith was charged with conspiracy to commit rape in March 2016 following an undercover investigation by the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office.

James Larail Sharp Jr.'s first-degree murder case won't be moved to juvenile court, the Arkansas Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday.
